MARV 2EX – measurement of dust in wet gas

MARV 2EX – the system is developed according to the requirements of ATEX, Zone 1/2 based on the MARV EX system after receiving requests from our customers to measure dust in wet explosive gas.

MARV 2EX measuring system for applications in explosive atmospheres

The MARV 2EX dust monitoring system is the only system for measuring dust by the extractive method in a technological process saturated with moisture in an explosive environment.

MARV 2EX = EXtractive EX-proof Optical Particle Monitoring CEMS Extractive, isokinetic and continuous measurement of suspended particles with temperature control for wet processes in explosive atmospheres

The system is designed for continuous measurement of the concentration of dust particles in industrial processes. It is an ideal solution for monitoring dust concentrations in wet gases, for example after wet scrubbers or in condensing environments.

The MARV 2EX model is the only one that can measure dust in explosive atmospheres according to ATEX (Zone 1/2) requirements.

For use in explosive environments, the MARV 2EX dust monitoring system uses a special configuration

  • nitrogen (N2) heated sampling probe,
  • special design optical sensor with nitrogen purge,
  • and built-in PLC,

which are placed in a weather-resistant steel housing, where N2 shielding gas is used to protect against the formation of an explosive gas atmosphere.

During operation, the probe continuously samples gas, which is heated in the probe to evaporate any moisture. The remaining particles in the dry gas are directed through the measuring chamber of the optical sensor. The light is directed through a stream of particles, causing the light to scatter. The photodiode detector catches the scattered light and determines the concentration of particles in the gas sample by the amount of scattered light.

Application in metallurgical production

BFG (Blast Furnace Gas)

Measurement of dust concentration before reuse of gas in a boiler or gas turbine operating on blast furnace gas (BFG).

Standard volume composition of blast furnace gas:

  • CO: 20 – 30 %,
  • CO2: 12 – 20 %,
  • H2: 1 – 4 %,
  • CH4: up to 0,5 %
  • rest N2.

Process gas temperature: 80 °C Relative humidity: 100%

BOF (Basic Oxygen Furnace)

Monitoring of dust emissions level after cleaning in a wet scrubber according to state rules (50 mg/m3) or measuring dust before reuse of converter gas in the boiler.

Standard volume composition of basic oxygen furnace gas:

  • CO: 55 – 60 %,
  • CO2: 12 – 18 %,
  • O2: 0,1 – 0,3 %
  • rest N2.

Process gas temperature: 70 °C Process pressure: 0,95 – 1,023 Bar Abs. Gas velocity: 5-30 m/s Relative humidity: 100%
